Miller Park Facts and History

By P.N.

The designers of Miller Park looked to none other than Robin Yount for input when it came time to decide upon the field dimensions. Miller Park opened in April of 2001, and since then has played host to some great baseball. Milwaukee Brewers fans now have an enclosed venue, something sorely needed in the early months of the baseball season. Under the Miller Park roof, it’s summer in April.

Wisconsinites witnessed the states largest construction project sprout up right next to County Stadium, the old ballpark that served them well for three decades. During the winter of 1996, construction began in earnest. Plans for the new ballpark had to involve rerouting the local freeway. In April of 2001, those with Miller Park tickets watched George W. Bush threw out the first pitch.

Miller Park Features

  • The entire site covers just over 260 acres
  • The ballpark seats just fewer than 42,000 fans for baseball games
  • The parking lot features some of the best tailgating in the country
  • The fan shaped roof is one of a kind in the United States
  • Milwaukee Brewer Craig Counsell caught a fly ball that hit the roof
  • The Sausage Race at Miller Park is now copied by numerous ball clubs

Over the years, a few adjustments have been made to the Miller Park roof and sliding panels behind the outfield walls. The decision to have the roof open or closed on any given day is a matter of player preference and weather.
