Salomon Torres Signs New Deal With Milwaukee Brewers

By J. Brigham Brewers Buddy | Posted Monday, November 7

Brewers General Manger Doug Melvin spent the past week in the Dominican Republic, as the organization finalized a deal with former reliever Salomon Torres. Torres won't be returning to pitch for Milwaukee in 2012; he will be leading a new baseball academy for future Brewers stars.

Baseball Training Grounds in Dominican Republic Built in 2006

Torres (who last played for the Brewers in 2008,) owns baseball training grounds in Latin America and leases them out to a number of big league teams. With a new deal in place, the Milwaukee Brewers farm league (Dominican team) will work in Ramon Santana, San Pedro de Macoris.

The complex, which was built in 2006, will be used as a possible first stop on the way to the majors for many of the Brewers’ prospects. Players will be fed, housed, and trained all in the same venue. This will enable scouts from Milwaukee to travel there any time to view the up-and-coming players. The facility contains two full fields, including bullpens and batting cages, a clubhouse, thirteen living areas, cafeteria facilities, and classrooms. In addition to their time on the field, players will also become involved in local community projects.
